Micellar water make-up off in a minute.

Micellar water lifts make-up with mild surfactants – no foam, no running water. What it can do, where it falls short and which one we recommend.

How micellar water works

Micelles are tiny spheres made of mild surfactants. Their oil-loving core binds make-up and sebum, while the water-loving shell keeps everything in solution. Whatever was on your face ends up on the pad. So micellar water is a cleanser – not a toner.

What we look for

Fragrance
For sensitive skin and the eyes, choose fragrance-free.
Bi-phase or not
Bi-phase micellar waters with oil remove waterproof make-up but need shaking and more thorough rinsing.
Rinsing
We recommend a quick rinse with lukewarm water, especially for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
Be gentle
Press the pad on and let it work rather than rubbing hard – especially around the eyes.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to rinse off micellar water?

Many manufacturers say no. We still recommend a quick rinse, because leftover surfactants can irritate sensitive skin over time.

Is micellar water suitable for every skin type?

For most, yes. Very dry skin sometimes feels tight afterwards – a cleansing milk is then more comfortable.

Does micellar water remove waterproof mascara?

Plain micellar water usually doesn’t remove it completely. Bi-phase versions or an oil-based eye make-up remover work better.

Is micellar water the same as toner?

No. Micellar water cleanses; toner comes after cleansing and preps your skin for skincare.
